Prefit barrels: which one fits
A prefit is a barrel already chambered and threaded for a particular action. Order the wrong thread and it doesn't go on.
I don't sell barrels. I sell the actions they thread onto, so here is what each one takes, in the maker's own words.
1-1/16 x 16 TPI
The common Remington 700 pattern thread. Order a Rem 700 prefit and say short or long action.

1-1/16 x 20 TPI
787 barrels only. A barrel cut for any other action here will not thread on, and a 787 barrel will not fit them. Tell your smith before he orders a blank.

Savage small shank
Savage-pattern prefits and shouldered barrels. A Rem 700 pattern barrel will not thread on.

Two things the thread doesn't tell you
A matching thread is not a guaranteed drop-in. Defiance guarantees headspace to ±.001" with their own Ruckus prefits. That guarantee doesn't transfer to a generic Remington 700 prefit just because the thread matches. Ask whoever is cutting your barrel before you order.
Same footprint, different barrel. Every action here is a Remington 700 footprint and they do not all take the same barrel. The 787 is the exception.
